Why does my baby grunt while feeding?

I’ve noticed my little one making grunting noises during feeds, and it’s made me a bit worried. It seems to happen most when they’re latching on or trying to get comfy. It sounds like they’re putting in a lot of effort to get the milk, but I can’t help but wonder if they’re uncomfortable or experiencing gas.

From what I’ve read, some experts say grunting can be totally normal as babies find their feeding rhythm. Yet, I’ve also come across parents who suggest it might indicate some discomfort. I’m curious—have any of you discussed this with your pediatrician? What insights did they provide? How do you cope with your baby’s feeding sounds?

My baby did the same thing when she was little, especially during those early feeds. I talked to our pediatrician, and they said it’s usually just them figuring out their latch and doesn’t mean something’s wrong. A good burp after feeding helped too—might be worth a try!

My baby did that too! It was super loud sometimes, especially when getting comfy. I talked to our pediatrician, and they just said it’s common, like they’re working hard to latch. I found that burping them more often helped with the grunting. It might be worth a try!
