When Does the Newborn Stage End?

There seems to be a lot of differing opinions on when the newborn stage officially wraps up. Some parents say it’s after the first month, while others extend it to three months or even longer. With all the sleepless nights and constant feedings, it can feel surreal to think about when this phase actually transitions.

Many parents wonder if they’ve moved past being in the ‘newborn’ phase without even realizing it. How did you know when your baby was no longer a newborn? Did the change feel significant, or was it just another day filled with the usual diaper changes and late-night feedings?

I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences! What signs did you notice, or how did you feel when this stage came to an end?

I think the transition can be super gradual and sneaks up on you! For me, I started noticing when my baby was more alert and engaged, like smiling and cooing more often. It felt like one day they were just a little bundle and the next, they were starting to really interact, which was a nice little surprise!

For us, the newborn stage felt like it ended when my baby started to stay awake longer and actually interact more with us. Those little coos and smiles were such a game-changer! One day it just clicked that they weren’t that tiny, sleepy little bundle anymore.
