What can help relieve constipation in newborns?

Constipated newborns can make for a tough situation for any parent. It’s difficult to see your little one in discomfort, and the plethora of advice out there can feel overwhelming. Has anyone dealt with this? What solutions have you found helpful?

There are so many opinions on dietary changes and gentle tummy massages, but it’s hard to know what’s safe for such tiny babies. Some friends have suggested a little water or even prune juice, but when is it appropriate to introduce these options? I’d love to hear about your experiences and any effective techniques you’ve used to keep your baby comfortable during those challenging late-night moments.

What methods have worked best for you in easing constipation for your newborns? Also, when do you think it’s necessary to reach out to a pediatrician?

I went through this with my little one too! A warm bath seemed to help relax their tummy and get things moving. For water or juice, my pediatrician said to wait until they’re a bit older, but you can try small tummy massages. If things don’t improve or they seem really uncomfortable, definitely reach out to your doc for advice.

My baby had a rough time with this, and the tummy massages really seemed to help! We also introduced a tiny bit of water around the 4-month mark, but I was super careful. I’d definitely talk to a pediatrician if it lasts more than a few days or if they seem really uncomfortable. How old is your little one?
