What are your best strategies for managing toddler tantrums?

Handling toddler tantrums can be quite challenging for parents. There are so many strategies people use, from distraction techniques to validating feelings. What has worked for you in calming the emotional outbursts?

It seems like every child responds differently to various methods. For example, some parents find timeouts effective, while others see little benefit. Recently, I’ve been trying deep breathing exercises with my toddler, and it appears to be helping us both. What techniques have you found to be successful? And what do you do when your usual methods don’t seem to work?

I feel you on that! Redirecting their attention has been a lifesaver for me. Like, if my kid’s melting down over a toy, I’ll quickly start a silly dance or point out something funny outside. Sometimes it’s hit or miss, but when it works, it really turns things around!

I totally hear you! My kid is all about the silly faces during a meltdown. I distract him with goofy faces or songs, and it usually takes his mind off the tantrum. It’s like a little comedy show, but hey, whatever works, right?
