Is it safe to eat shrimp while breastfeeding?

Breastfeeding comes with so many dietary considerations, and it can be hard to know what’s safe to eat. A lot of us experience cravings, and lately, shrimp has been on my mind. However, I’ve seen mixed opinions about seafood—some say it’s nutritious, while others warn about mercury levels.

Has anyone dealt with this issue? What guidelines or advice did you follow when it came to including shrimp or other seafood in your diet while nursing? I would love to hear your experiences and any tips for managing cravings while keeping our little ones safe.

I ate shrimp pretty regularly while breastfeeding and didn’t have any issues. Just make sure it’s cooked properly and sourced from a reliable place to avoid any mercury concerns. Also, if you notice any weird reactions in your baby, that might be a signal to cut back.

I get the concern, but I’ve read that shrimp is pretty low in mercury compared to other seafood. I ate it a good amount while nursing and never had any issues. Just make sure it’s cooked well, and you should be fine!
