Is it safe for a newborn to sleep on your chest?

A lot of new parents find their little ones enjoy napping on their chest. It’s such a cozy and bonding experience, but safety is definitely a concern. What are everyone’s thoughts on this? Is it generally safe for newborns to sleep like this?

I’ve seen differing opinions on the matter—some say it’s perfectly fine while others raise alarms about potential hazards. Have any of you managed this without issues? If so, do you have any tips or preferred positions that make it safer? Staying alert while they’re snoozing seems important, but I’d love to get more insights from those who’ve been there.

I think as long as you’re awake and keeping an eye on them, it can be really nice for bonding. I always made sure to sit in a comfy chair rather than lying down to avoid any risks. Have you tried using a baby carrier that lets them be close but still secure?

I’ve done the chest nap thing with my baby, and it can be cozy! Just make sure you’re in a safe position—like sitting up with pillows supporting your back. Staying awake is key, too. I always tried to keep my hands free to prevent any mishaps.
