Is it normal to get your period while breastfeeding?

It’s surprising how many new parents discover that their periods can return even while they’re breastfeeding. Many expect breastfeeders to have a break from their monthly cycles, yet experiences can vary widely. Some moms I’ve talked to found that they resumed menstruation only a few months after giving birth.

While it’s often said that breastfeeding helps keep periods at bay due to hormonal changes, that doesn’t hold true for everyone. For those who have navigated this, how did it affect your breastfeeding journey? Were there any tips or insights that helped you manage both? I’d love to hear your experiences!

I started my period a few months in, and it definitely caught me off guard. I found that staying hydrated and keeping some snacks handy helped with the mood swings. Did you notice any changes in your milk supply around that time?

I started getting my period back a few months in too, and honestly, it threw me for a loop at first! I found keeping a supply of nursing pads around really helped with any leaks during that time. Also, tracking my cycle made it a lot less stressful while getting used to the change.
