Is gentle parenting effective for all families?

Many new parents are exploring gentle parenting methods, but consistently applying these strategies can be a challenge. For example, during a toddler’s meltdown in a public space, maintaining composure and sticking to gentle parenting principles can feel daunting. In those moments, it’s common to question whether these techniques are truly effective or if they just add to the stress.

It would be interesting to hear how gentle parenting has worked for different families. Are there particular situations where you found it especially effective or, conversely, where it didn’t seem to work at all? Do some elements of gentle parenting resonate more with your parenting style than others? Looking forward to hearing your experiences and insights!

I’ve tried gentle parenting, and honestly, it works pretty well during calm moments but it’s tough in public. I remember a time my toddler threw a fit at the store, and I just ended up feeling overwhelmed. It’s like I needed to switch gears and use some more assertive strategies to even get through it. Anyone else feel that way?

I’ve found gentle parenting works well most of the time, but man, those public tantrums are tough. Sometimes I just end up saying “let’s take a break” and step aside until things calm down. After a meltdown, talking through it later seems to really help my kid understand their feelings better.
