How long should your baby sleep in your room?

Bringing a newborn home can be a bit overwhelming, especially with all the decisions you have to make right off the bat. One of the biggest questions new parents face is how long their baby should sleep in their room. With so much advice out there, it can be tough to know what’s best for both your peace of mind and your baby’s safety.

Many experts recommend keeping your baby in your room for at least the first six months, primarily for easier breastfeeding and monitoring. However, I’ve also seen guidelines that suggest extending this period to a year. It can be a bit of a balancing act between ensuring that both the baby and parents have their own space.

For those of you who have been through this, what worked for you? Did you stick to the recommended guidelines, or did you find a different approach that fit your family’s needs better? How did you decide when it was time to move your baby to their own room?

We had our baby in our room for about nine months. It made late-night feedings a breeze, but honestly, I was pretty ready to have my space back after that! Just keep an eye on what feels right for you and your baby.
