How do you set appropriate screen time limits for your kids?

Finding the right screen time limits for my kids can be pretty daunting, especially since they’re different ages. My older ones love using educational apps and engaging in online learning, while the little ones are all about cartoons and games. It’s a tricky balance to ensure everyone gets some beneficial screen time without it dominating our day.

Some days I try to stick to a strict schedule, but that often feels too limiting, leading to resistance from my kids. On other days, I go with a more flexible approach, only to worry that they might be spending too much time on their devices. I’ve heard about the 2-hour rule, but I wonder if that’s really realistic for kids today.

How do you all navigate setting screen time limits that feel fair and effective? What strategies have worked for you? And do you have any tips for rewarding good screen time habits without making it feel like a chore?

I totally get where you’re coming from. I have a similar setup with my kids, and what seems to work is having tech-free zones during meals and right before bed. Also, occasionally letting them choose their own screen time reward, like a movie night, helps balance it out without feeling too strict. Just gotta find that middle ground, I guess!
