How do you choose family activities that teens will enjoy?

I’ve been having a tough time lately finding family activities that my teens are actually interested in. Every suggestion I make seems to be met with eye rolls or a quick ‘no.’ I really want to create some memorable bonding experiences, but I also don’t want to push them into something they’ll end up resenting.

I’m curious about how other parents handle this. Do you let your teens pick the activities, or do you have some family traditions that everyone looks forward to? How do you balance their interests with the desire to spend time together? I’d love to hear your thoughts and any tips you might have!

Have you tried involving them in the planning process? It might help if they can suggest ideas or even pick the activity for one family day. Sometimes just giving them a little control can make a huge difference!

It might help to involve them in the planning process! Maybe suggest a “family activity jar” where everyone writes down ideas they like, and you draw from it. You could also try a mix of traditional family stuff and more trendy options they might like, like going to an escape room or a local event.
