Has anyone sleep trained their teenagers?

As a parent of teens, I never expected to find myself thinking about sleep training again, but here we are. My 16-year-old has developed some really unpredictable sleep habits, staying up way too late and then having a tough time getting up for school. I thought those sleepless nights were behind me!

I’ve heard some people mention a kind of ‘sleep training’ for teens, which sounds both funny and a bit absurd. Setting up a bedtime routine with screen time limits feels more like parenting a toddler than a high schooler. I’m curious if anyone has actually tried this and if it worked. Are there tips that helped, or is this just another parenting idea that seems good in theory?

How do you encourage your teens to be independent while also getting them to sleep at a decent hour? What’s your experience been like?

I can relate! My 17-year-old has been all over the place with sleep too. We tried a digital curfew and it kinda worked for a bit, but then they just found other screens to use. I guess they just have to figure it out themselves eventually, but it can be super frustrating!

I can totally relate! My 15-year-old went through this too. We started having a tech-free hour before bed, and honestly, it helped a ton. He still pushes it sometimes, but it’s way better than before. Good luck!
