Gentle Parenting: Everyday Examples and Experiences

Parenting can be quite a challenge, especially when trying to embrace gentle parenting techniques. Recently, I faced a tough moment when my toddler threw a tantrum because she couldn’t have a cookie before dinner. Instead of immediately saying ‘no,’ I took a breath and focused on connecting with her feelings. I crouched down to her eye level, acknowledged her disappointment, and offered an alternative snack while promising she could have a cookie after dinner. It might seem like a small win, but it really changed the atmosphere of that moment.

I’ve been actively searching for more gentle parenting examples that fit into our hectic lives. Balancing work and parenting is no easy feat, so whether it’s validating emotions during a meltdown or creating a calm-down corner, I want to know how others incorporate gentle approaches. Have you found anything that works particularly well in your home? What gentle parenting strategies do you find easy to implement during tough times?

I totally get that! When my kiddo has a meltdown, I try to redirect their attention to a fun activity we can do together, like drawing or building something. It helps them feel heard while changing the focus. Do you have any go-to activities for those tough moments?
