Can I Drink Coffee While Breastfeeding?

Many new moms find themselves questioning their caffeine habits after welcoming a baby. Is that morning cup of coffee still safe while breastfeeding? There’s a lot of mixed advice out there. Some sources suggest that moderate caffeine intake—around 300 mg daily—shouldn’t have a significant impact on breastfeeding.

Have any parents noticed changes in their babies’ sleep patterns or moods after they consumed caffeine? It would be great to hear about your experiences. How have you managed your coffee cravings while nursing? Any tips or expert insights to share?

I had a friend who noticed her baby was a bit fussier after she had her coffee, but I didn’t have any issues when I had mine in moderation. I found that timing it right—like having my coffee right after a feed—helped a lot. It’s all about figuring out what works best for you and your little one!

I’d say sticking to one cup a day is a good rule. I noticed my baby was a bit more wakeful when I had more than that, but everyone’s different. Trying iced coffee with less caffeine helped curb my cravings without overdoing it!
